Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has said the main task of the new government will be to take appropriate steps to implement the promises made in the election manifesto.
He said this at a joint meeting organized at the office of Dhaka District Awami League at Tejgaon on Tuesday afternoon.
Quader said the newly elected MPs will take oath at 10 am on Wednesday. The leader of the House will also be determined on this day. The new cabinet will take oath at Bangabhaban at 7pm on Thursday.
“The journey of a new Bangladesh begins in 2024. We want to take the country a long way under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina. The party leaders and workers will have to move with a cool head to take forward the country`s continuous development journey irrespective of party and opinion. There should be no violence or conflict anywhere. The speech that the leader has given to the leaders and activists should be followed word by word. We have to overcome the expectations of the people of the country and the challenges of running the country,” he added.
Quader also urged the party leaders and activists not to engage in any violence after the parliamentary elections. Regarding the BNP`s movement, he said these are a ploy to keep its leaders and activists energized. The people of the country have voted. Voters boycotted those who called for a boycott.
“We need to increase our focus against mischief in the future. We don`t do politics of vengeance. But the BNP does. This will increase their level of public isolation. We are always careful not to do any harm. Facing everything, Awami League is in the centre of today`s victory. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is steadfast in discharging the responsibilities entrusted to her,” he also said.
About the statements of some foreign countries in the election, the Awami League general secretary said, “Observers of America, Commonwealth and OIC were present here in this election of Bangladesh. I think those who are making different statements will also understand this based on the positive comments that observers will make from their country after observing the election.”
Awami League leaders Dr Abdur Razzak, Jahangir Kabir Nanak and Dr Dipu Moni, among others, were present at the meeting.
